Fables of Modernity

Generative Design | Installations | Machine Learning

Fables of Modernity is a series of work that re-imagines the authenticity of an individual's perception towards identity and culture of home. It examines the perception of a machine towards the artists' culture and tradition of his hometown, and how it infuses traditional aspects with computational methodologies of thinking and perceptualizing the term of home for an individual.

Through this project, I aim to experiment with different mediums such as the implementations of GANs (Generative Adversarial Network), creative programming, Artificial Intelligence, and sound design to execute the research towards the exhibition.

An expected outcome from this project would be an installation showcasing a mix of mediums using. computational poetry and languages.

Residency Documentation

Datas Datas Datas

The first stages of the residency was to experiment with and generate
visuals of a machines’ perspective through generative programming, inputting datasets
of images from the artist’s home and cultural background.

Computational Poetry

Languages and dialects of the artist’s cultural background are fed into the machine
to create some sort of narrative and poetry, about how a machine tries to understand
the concepts and emotions of home, compares to a human’s.

Dialects fed are Bataknese, Medanese Hokkien, Minang and the Madura dialects.

Residency Work In Progress Show

To celebrate a milestone in the first stage of the residency, a work
in progress show and short artist tour was held to showcase the research of the project.
